Our "Oliebol" is made from scratch, following a secret traditional family recipe and snap frozen straight after they cool down. This allows them to stay soft and fluffy on the inside while still nice and crisp on the outside. For your convenience, we have also included a sachet of icing sugar.
Fun fact: Oliebollen (oil bauble) have been eaten in the Netherlands for centuries, although they were first known as ‘oliekoeken’ (oil cookies) as they were flat. In the Middle Ages ‘oliekoeken’ were baked in a little bit of rapeseed oil and made from long-life ingredients. Nice and fat, so high in calories which was a good protection against the winter cold! It was only when oil became more readily available, that the ‘oliekoeken’ were made in a large pot of oil. This made them take on a round shape, and the ‘oliebol’ was created.
